Charles Owen Riders Make Waves In Wellington
Charles Owen riders had a superb weekend in Wellington, Fla., piloting exciting new horses to wins at the $75,000 Asheville Regional Airport Wellington Eventing Showcase, the Winter Equestrian Festival and the CP Wellington Masters.
Boyd Martin wowed the crowd at The Stadium at Palm Beach International Equestrian Center with Blackfoot Mystery, cruising to victory with a score of 30.60. It was a repeat of Martin’s thrilling win last year at the inaugural Wellington Eventing Showcase on Trading Aces and helped to cement Martin’s new partnership with Blackfoot Mystery.
Shane Sweetnam and Buckle Up also had a stunning weekend at the 2016 Winter Equestrian Festival, winning the $35,000 Suncast® 1.50m Championship Jumper Classic. Even with just two weeks to forge a partnership with his new ride prior to week four of WEF, Sweetnam was able to put in a double-clear round to top the class
Cian O’Connor rode Callisto to second place behind Sweetnam, going first in the jump-off and putting in a double-clear round with a time of 39.70 seconds. He got the ride on the Dutch Warmblood gelding at the end of 2015, and the pair’s career is off to an auspicious start this season.
Beezie Madden and Coach claimed the win in the $20,000 1.40m Jumpers at the CP Wellington Masters at Deeridge Farms this weekend. In an action-packed jump-off, Madden took the lead with a time of 38.127 seconds. Madden acquired the Holsteiner gelding as a 7-year-old last year and has an exciting rest of the season to look forward to with him.
Charles Owen is thrilled to help contribute to these riders’ success and is looking forward to cheering them on throughout the rest of the season!
