Esme Higgs is one of the biggest influencers in the equestrian world – with 1.3M subscribers and an incredible 305 million total views on her YouTube channel, as well as over 330k followers on Instagram. Although Esme isn’t a fan of the word ‘influencer’. She sees herself as a writer, presenter and video producer – and a horse-mad ordinary girl. Her online videos are a mix of tutorials, horse care videos and vlogs about her horses and her life. And her life is pretty fabulous. Esme’s job has taken her all around the world and seen her meet, interview – and ride! – some of the biggest names in equestrian sport. She has worked with the FEI at international shows, has recently been part of Virtual Eventing, and is a proud ambassador for The Brooke charity, World Horse Welfare and Riding for the Disabled. She is also a patron for Team Tutsham.
As with most successful YouTubers, Esme didn’t start her channel for fame or fortune. She began making videos to track her progress with her pony Casper – who was quite a challenging ride! Esme used YouTube as a way of storing the videos and sharing them with friends and family. However, Esme really enjoyed the creative and editing process, so she started uploading more videos, including tutorials. To her surprise, she soon realised how popular they were. Esme gained 60,000 subscribers using just her smartphone and free editing software. She now has a full studio at home, and more than six million views a month, in over 170 countries around the world. However, it’s still very much a family affair, and even her young brother Max gets involved. He was featured in her May 2020 video ‘Sister Vs Brother | Eventing Challenge!’ and also helps fly the video drone.
Until 2019 Esme juggled making videos with her school work. But when she finished her A-Levels last year in Chemistry, Biology and Geography, she decided to take up video production full time. As well as running her YouTube account, Esme works with a number of brands and creates content for other businesses.
In 2023 Esme ventured into writing - co-authoring a heartfelt children's fiction series: Starlight Stables Gang. She also launched her very own podcast "Esme's Country Life" and releases weekly episodes about horses, country life and behind the scenes moments.
