John French is one of the U.S.’s most successful hunter/jumper riders. He has represented the U.S. in international show jumping competition and has set records in the hunter ring ever since.
John grew up near Baltimore, MD, where his mother worked as a riding instructor. As a professional himself, he has become known for his style in the saddle and his dedication to the sport.
Over a five-year period, John went from Rookie Grand Prix Rider of the Year to qualifying for the World Cup Finals, placing in Britain’s Hickstead Grand Prix and representing the US on Nations Cup Teams in Great Britain, Belgium, Spain and Sweden.
He won the inaugural $100,000 ASG Software Solutions/USHJA International Hunter Derby Finals with Rumba in 2009 at the Kentucky Horse Park. In 2012, he won the WCHR Lifetime Achievement Award. He was awarded the West Region USHJA Hunter Derby Rider of the Year award in 2016 and the CPHA Pre-Green Incentive Rider of the Year. He has also won the World Champion Hunter Rider four times.
In 2017, John decided to downsize his full-service show barn to a smaller group of horses that travel to shows. He is also an “R” judge and enjoys coaching and teaching clinics across the country.
